Introduction

Established in 2055 BS (1998 AD), Ashmita Nepal has been working for improving situation of socially marginalized women and children through capacity building, skill transformation, leadership development, and livelihood enhancement. This organization had been operating different programs against all forms of discrimination towards women and children since its establishment.

WETCOFE (Supporting community based sustainable forest management and economic empowerment of women in central region of Nepal)

Ashmita Nepal is implementing 3 years,' Supporting community based sustainable forest management and economic empowerment of women in central region of Nepal  (WETCOFE) program' in 4 CFUGs of Makwanpur district from Oct 2014 to Sept 2016. The CFUGs involved are Piple Pokhara CF, Banaskhandi Devi CF, Mnakamana CF and Newreni Chishapani CF. The selected community forest lies in the edge of the core city. Most of the households of the CFUGs are from ethnic people like Rai, Magar, Tamang, etc. Altogether 500 ha. area is covered by the four CFs.
  The project aims to assist on sustainable forest management and to improve foret condition through the mobilization of the forest dependent communities and to generate the opportunity for the livelihood enhancement through the women led enterprise development.
  The goal of the project is " community forests and local livelihoods well developed and managed in sustainable ways as well as models and approaches on SFM recognized and applied by government and other communities.
  The specific objectives of the project are as follows:
1. Demonstrate sustainable forest management practices and promote alternative energy to reduce pressure on forest and carbon emission.
2. Promote development of community forest based mini-enterprises to improve wise use of forest resources and livelihood of marginalized communities.
3. Draw good models of best approaches in which communities are empowered to manage and use forest resources in a sustainable way.
